About us

A neighborhood deli on 3rd Street North.

Son's Deli sits in a brick building a short walk up from the St. Croix, between the liquor store and the gas station. Locally owned, made in house, and open to anyone who walks through the door hungry.

Meet the owner
“Our goal is simple — serve the kind of food we crave after a day on the river: fresh, filling, and easy to enjoy anywhere.”

That line does most of the work. Everything on the menu is built to be eaten somewhere other than a dining room — on a boat, at a job site, in the front seat on a lunch break, or standing in a driveway on a Saturday.

It's why the Port Boys come on a ciabatta roll that holds up, why the cooler is stocked before the doors open, and why so much of what we sell is already wrapped and ready when you walk in.

How we make it

The work happens before you order.

A Port Boy takes about five minutes to hand over and considerably longer to get ready. Meats are sliced or braised in house, sauces are made here, and the cooler is filled every morning before the first customer arrives.

  • House-sliced and braised meats, grilled hot to order on artisan ciabatta.
  • House-made sauces and deli salads, prepped fresh rather than bought in.
  • Locally baked breads and sweet treats on the shelves alongside our own.
  • Packed for grab and go, so the cooler items need no counter wait at all.
Quality made convenient

What we're trying to get right

Four things we keep coming back to. They're also, more or less, what people write about us when they leave a review.

Made here

Braised, sliced, mixed and stocked on site. If we can make it ourselves rather than open a bag, we do.

Priced like a deli

Cooler hoagies, salads and sides are meant to be an everyday option, not a treat you budget for.

Fast when you're in a hurry

Order ahead and it's bagged when you arrive. Or grab something already wrapped and skip the counter entirely.

Easy to talk to

Small shop, same faces. Ask what's good, tell us what you didn't like, get a straight answer either way.

In other people's words

We'd rather you heard it from the regulars.

Made my way through about half the menu now and every sandwich has been excellent quality and much more unique than the average sandwich shop. Prices are great especially for the quality. Keep it up!

What a gem! From the sandwiches, to the soups, to the grab n go salads…this place is great! I would recommend any of the hot sandwiches! The breakfast sandwiches are great and at an affordable price!

Awesome addition to Bayport in a great location. I stop here at least once a week for a quick hot deli sandwich and it never disappoints. Tots are hot and crispy, sandwiches are delicious.

Come say hi

Best way to get to know us is lunch.

Walk in and ask what's good. Somebody behind the counter will have an opinion.
